Week 20 - More running and ROM

I continue to run 3 times a week, at least 30 minutes, and focusing on increasing speed a little. Running now is quite a mental leap, as I'm no longer following a set programme that tells me what to do, now I just run because I want to, which is still surreal to me. I do still get depressed about ROM, particularly behind my back. But there are days when the improvements are obvious, and I calm down. I can raise my arm in front of me without thinking about it, and can do things like wash my face, shampoo my hair, put on face cream, with both hands in the same way I used to before this happened. I still cannot do up my bra behind my back properly, but I make myself do it up behind my back at waist level, and I use my old sling around my left wrist, drape it over my right shoulder, and then pull on it with my right hand to raise my left hand up behind my back as far as possible. I am getting a little more movement that way, but always assisted, I still have almost no movement unas...

Week 18 - C25K Graduate!

Got there in the end, despite the bus driver causing me so much damage and interruption back in June. I don't even think about my shoulder any more when I'm running, it just does what my right shoulder does without a twinge. My shoulder ROM is getting better, I think. It's hard to be objective about it. I can lift it up to the front quite easily, and it's getting higher when I walk my fingers up the wall.  Movement behind my back is improving, and I'm making myself do up my bra behind my back - at waist level, but hopefully will be able to get higher up my back over the next few weeks/months. Movement to the side is also improving, and I can get my arm up higher than my shoulder to the side.  My right hand still hurts occasionally, particularly if I have to twist or use strength while gripping something - e.g. pulling on a rope or pulley. Yesterday I carried in a very heavy bag of compost from the car, and my shoulder really, really didn't like that. B...

Week 17 - Running, ROM and Pansies

I have now finished one job and have over 2 weeks before I start the new one, so making the most of this time off by more running, focusing on movement, and gardening. I am now able to run for 28 minutes at a pace that my fitbit actually recognises as running (up til now it keeps calling it walking, which is slightly demoralising!). I'm about to do Week 9, so 3 more runs until I graduate from C25K, and the next 3 runs are 30 minutes. Really looking forward to it, and I need to think about what to do after graduation, as I really don't want to stop running.  I can also garden, including digging over large beds, carrying watering cans in my left arm, and reaching out to plant in front of me with my left hand, and pushing myself up off the ground with my left arm. My shoulder actually popped/clicked the other night, which freaked me out, but didn't hurt or cause any lasting issues. I just hate the noise of bones cracking. My range of motion is improving, and I ...
